Scoring Form

Pub Scoring forms are available for download here, in both Excel and PDF format. There are four to a sheet and can be cut into individual forms.

The function of the forms is to give you the opportunity as you go to your various pubs to mark the beer you are drinking, You then submit these forms either at a branch meeting or email to beerscores

The results are recorded and form part of our campaining strategy by highlighting any trends in lowering standards of beer by pubs or breweries

You can also go to the CAMRA national on line scoring system by clicking here

Here is an example of the form:

What scores mean

0. Undrinkable. No cask ale available or so poor you have to take it back or can't finish it.

1. Poor.  Beer that is anything from barely drinkable to drinkable with considerable resentment.

2. Average.  Competently kept, drinkable pint but doesn't inspire in any way, not worth moving to another pub but you drink the beer without really noticing.

3. Good. Good beer in good form. You may cancel plans to move to the next pub. You want to stay for another pint and may seek out the beer again.

4. Very Good.  Excellent beer in excellent condition.

5. Perfect.  Probably the best you are ever likely to find. A seasoned drinker will award this score very rarely

Annual Beer Census

The aim of the census is to check the pubs in Nottingham on a single day to see what beers they have on and at what price. Over the years we hope that the results will show trends of beer being sold and prices.  The 2015 beer and cider census will be on Friday 18th September.  If you fancy joining in and visiting some pubs to survey what is for sale and the price it is sold for then please email Nigel Johnson with the details of which route you can cover.  Nigel can be contacted on

The census is open to any CAMRA member to take part in, and in fact the more the better. There is nothing more lonely than going round nine or ten pubs by yourself filling out a form as you go. So if we could get eleven groups of 3, 4 or 5 people going round it would make a very enjoyable night. So this year please put your name forward. Don't just leave it to the committee to do.

We know from past years that Nottingham has a large range of beer and ciders in its excellent pubs. On a single day in 2014, 334 different beers from 107 breweries were available in the 133 pubs surveyed.  Last year’s results showed another increase in the range of beer available. In fact, we have shown that year-on-year, choice is continuing to improve. In fact, choice of where to drink is seemingly improving too, as there are several new establishments on this year’s census.

The choice and quality of Real cider is much better than 2013.  Westons was only seen 23 times this year compared with 41 in 2013.  This represents a very significant shift as publicans appear to be realising that cider drinkers also appreciate a choice.
