GK
at it again |
| Greene King have hyped
the rent at the Lion Revived, Bulwell - Landlord and
lady, Mark and Christine are leaving due to this rent
increase. The exorbitant increase means that they can
no longer remain in the pub and make a living. This
is typical GK tactics to force licensees out. As far
as we know the pub is not closing. A letter from CAMRA
member Mr Berrington to GK can be read

Nottingham Camra branch
excursion to unknown territories in far off Lincolnshire
Well here it is - almost hot off the press - a report
+ pics on our friends from across the West & their
trip to two of Fenland's best country inns, on Friday
20th Nov.
The bus with thirty plus eager Nottingham Camra members
embarked in the dark at the Plough, Horbling to sample
pints of Wisbech Winter Ale, very quaffable at 3.8%
& in good condition. Although some remarked that
a winter ale at 3.8% was a bit below par everyone agreed
that the Plough, with its unique interior, including
the snug, and friendly atmosphere, was well worth the
trip. Everards Tiger was also on offer. Thanks to mine
hosts Karen & Dave for their kind hospitality.
Here's the plug Dave - Jazz is on the menu on Wed 2nd
Dec - be there !
The next port of call was the Three Kings, Threekingham
- how come the bus left tenminutes before I did but
I had to wait five minutes for it to arrive ?
Only Ray & the driver can explain this, although
of coarse these Lincolnshire lanes can be quite misleading.
Anyroads up - arrive the bus did & soon the 3 Kings
was dispensing pints of Cottage IPA(Norman Conquest)
5% - a most agreeable pale beer with bags of body. Other
beers on offer were Bass and Timmy Taylors Landlord..
After we had the photocall outside the pub Ray herded
the cats back on the bus ready for their next stop at
Oasby & the Houblon Arms.
Hopefully the Nottingham Branch members enjoyed their
trip & we look forward to seeing them again soon.

Just picked
up a copy of your excellent nagazine in Crowlas while leaving
some Midland mags, and was interested in the letters page.
While I sympathise with the pensioner who was caught
short, just think what it is like for a FEMALE real ale drinking
pensioner caught short after a festival / pub crawl in city
centres these days. Men can at least look discrete whereas
for women it is an embarrassing and humiliating experience.
Not just city centres. I told a railway worker on Scarborough
station to turn his back as I was going to pull my knickers
down for a wee when he told me toilets were locked to prevent
drug abuse. He said you can't there's CCTV, so I said it will
give someone a laugh then won't it. He opened the door and
men as well as ladies dashed into the ladies as he wouldn't
open the gents. We all suffer full bladders!!

Have had
a letter from John Hepple MP saying that he wont be signing
Early Day Motion 10 re alcohol duty, along with copy of
a letter from the Treasury about beer excise duty. You probably
have had the same or at least similar letters from other
members, but let me know if you haven't and I'll E-mail
them to you.
I find it a bit hypocritical of Mr Hepple to not support
the motion when in Nottingham Drinker he appears to be supporting
Camra (re Siba Festival and Castle Rock in the House of
Commons) but as I pointed out to him pubs in his constuency
are closing at an alarming rate with beer tax rises exacerbating
this.
